Eighteen photos captured January 21, 2007 of the aftermath of a very strong winter storm. Fresh snow covered many of the low desert mountains near the Phoenix metro area. There was significant snow on Four Peaks, Mt. Ord and the Superstition Mountains. There also was some nice sunset color near last light.

Eighteen photos, captured November 28 and 30, 2005, of migratory ducks on the pond at Mesa, Arizona's Riverview Park. Many species of ducks not normally seen in the Arizona desert frequent such desert ponds during the winter months. Included with the duck photos are three photos of other subjects that were captured November 5, 2005 at Water Ranch in Gilbert, Arizona.

Twenty-five photos captured October 13, 2005 along and in the area of the Coronado Trail (Highway 191 between Morenci and Alpine, Arizona). The aspens were at their peak for fall color at 9000 foot elevation and above. The Mule Deer were out posing and some Elk were photographed at last light. Also included here are two photos of a Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, a species rarely encountered in Arizona.

This image was created from two photographs taken at the same location in Mesa, Arizona; a few minutes apart on December 13, 2002 (Friday the 13th). The jet fighters were nicely backlit as they approached to land at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and the moon was bright. San Xavier del Bac is an active Franciscan mission to the Tohono O'odham Indians near Tucson, Arizona. It was established in August 1692 and the church was completed in 1797. It is considered the finest example of Spanish colonial architecture in the United States. The thirty-one photos that make up this e-postcard were all taken July 5, 2002.

This Franciscan mission was established in 1691 by Jesuit Eusebio Kino along the Santa Cruz River of southern Arizona, home of the upper Piman Indians. A small church was built in 1757 and served for 65 years.

This photo was taken June 20, 2002, one of the early days of what eventually became Arizona's historically largest forest fire. It shows the tremendous smoke plumes from what was then two fires. This photograph was taken in the evening at Mesa, Arizona's Riverview Park, about 130 miles away from the fires.

A tiny feral cat brought three kittens to live under the Little Mesa House deck. The two known survivors of that litter, Orange and Grey, became best pals with their Big Guy. The 28 photos here were taken 1999 to 2002 and were posted in honor of Grey's third birthday.

In southeast Arizona are several mountain ranges that rise significantly in elevation from the surrounding desert. The ranges differ significantly in climate, flora and fauna from the desert and are commonly referred to as Arizona "sky islands."
