The Willow Fire was said to have been started by lightning on June 24, 2004. By July 2, when these photos were taken, the fire had spread to 51,000 acres, was burning fiercely just 3-5 miles from Payson, AZ and was said to be only 5% contained. The fire grew an additional 18,500 acres July 2nd and it's smoke was detected by radar as far away as Missouri.
